Dear Right Angle Member
We have two luncheon speakers for this month, each of high quality, as well as our Spring Fling and a holiday.
MAY 2012 SPEAKERS
- 04 – “25 years of Travels to Mexico” Ted Burkett (our “very own” and a former Right Angle President).
Ted has served as President of the Mexican Society of Philadelphia and has traveled to Mexico frequently over the past 25 years. As well as being a member of MIST (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea and Turkey) or second tier of emerging economies, Mexico is a “good neighbor” although not without its problems. Ted can help us become more familiar with our southern neighbor.
- 11 “Light at the End of the Tunnel” Paul van Meter, CEO of Viaduct Greene
Viaduct Greene is developing three miles (formerly the Reading Viaduct in central Philadelphia) and covering 55 city blocks. The Viaduct, according to Google, runs northwards from 11th/12th Streets at Callowhill and formerly carried trains of the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad.
- 20 Our “Spring Fling” (on a SUNDAY) will take place at historic Bartram’s Garden. There will be no Friday luncheon.
The Garden was the home of John Bartram, the self-educated son of a Quaker farmer, who lived between the 17th and 18th centuries. The world-famous Garden led to Bartram being called by one “the greatest natural botanist in the world.”
- 28 MEMORIAL DAY (No meeting on the preceding Friday).
Formerly known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day observed the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil War (“The War Between the States” for you Southerners). Now, it commemorates all members of the Armed Forces who have died while serving their country.
