Dear Right Angle Member:

Below is your November calendar of Right Angle events for your enjoyment and, perhaps, to share with a friend as an invited guest.

Please note: we have a change of speaker for Friday, October 28th.
The luncheon for 10/28 will now feature Dr. Eric Lien.
Dr. Lien joined Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in 1975 where he led a research team in developing novel treatments for diabetes. Later, he directed research to improve pediatric nutrition. Dr. Lien has a Ph.D in biochemistry, he’s held the title of VP Nutritional Research and Development and was also an adjunct full professor at the University of Illinois. Along with being a member of a US delegation to three UN meetings for pediatric nutrition.

NOVEMBER SPEAKERS

  • 4 Ronald L. Gougher, Ph.D., formerly Chairperson, Department of Foreign Languages: 1977-1996, West Chester University. Dr. Gougher will be speaking to us on the very timely subject of teacher evaluation. As school taxes continue to rise, how can we be assured that our teachers are doing their best possible job and are being fairly compensated? Dr. Gougher also was Associate Professor of German 1969-2005 at WCU.
  • 11 Richard Romm will guide us in a revealing introduction to Philadelphia’s State in Schuylkill (aka the Fish House), allegedly “…the oldest and most select [club] in the entire world.” “Formally organized in 1732,” continues Nathaniel Burt’s “The Perennial Philadelphians,” “it is a cooking club” “limited to thirty members plus five or ten apprentices.”

This program will be November’s “Evening Buffet” offering. There will be no Friday lunch; the buffet will commence at 5:30pm. John White, our President, will be emailing everyone with additional details.

  • 18 Shyamalendu Bose, Ph.D., Professor at Drexel University’s Department of Physics, on the subject of nanotechnology, which, according to Wikipedia, is the science of manipulating matter on an atomic or molecular scale. Dr. Bose’s research interests include high-temperature super-conductors.
  • 25 THANKSGIVING DAY (on Thursday) No luncheon Friday.

Enjoy turkey, watch football, rejoice with family and friends, and give thanks for life’s blessings!

Best wishes,
Neale Bringhurst
